The existing legislation on the protection of water intended for human consumption, both at European and national level, requires conformity to standards of minimum safety and quality conditions at the point where the water is available for consumption.
Compliance with legal requirements of the water is regulated by the integration of a series of measures to ensure mitigation of risks potentially associated with water and end with the guarantee of hygiene of distribution plants up to the tap.
Essential is the surveillance and monitoring of bio-contamination of the waters in the various segments of the collection and distribution of drinking water sector
The purpose of the project was to provide, together with the sanitizing of tanks and boiler, also the elements of judgment for the management of biological and chemical contamination of water and useful rules of conduct to reduce such risks to a minimum, promoting hygiene practices appropriate for the water systems.
The method used is the system of hazard analysis and critical points (HACCP), that is the basis for the drafting of the "Risk Analysis” in accordance with applicable regulations.
Legionella
The project also involved the control of bio-contamination by Legionella, a draft project of systemic and systematic sampling of zones and risk points, for the application of appropriate control measures.
The sanitation project has provided information on:
Guiding principles of sanitary-protection and control of water quality;
Identification of critical monitoring points for maintenance of the facilities;
Identification of preventive measures;
Attached the intervention register and the correction of any non-compliance;
The main elements and elements for updating the Risk Assessment of bio-contamination;
Georeferencing and registration of protected interventions;
Sampling and analysis.
Pre-decontamination
Incoming water analysis into the water supply of the district
Legionella in showers
Check sanitizing tanks
Tank inner surface tampons
Post decontamination
Water analyzes outbound endpoints
Legionella showers
Results
Legionella: all samples within the safety parameters; be monitored every 6 months.
Network waters: no sample within the limits with obvious contamination from procurement right. Sanitizing concerned only tanks and has not definitively resolved contamination
Chemistry: in all samples was not detected the presence of chlorine, nor have detected other abatement microbial methods.
Conclusions
The requirements, accompanied by the Registry and the Maintenance of cards indicated scheduled maintenance to be performed on:
Primary drinking water network
Storage tanks
Water networks
Endpoints (shower heads or taps)
Chlorine free and total assets, or other abatement method of microbial loads
Legionella monitoring
